Time Line of how Haiti came to be.
1789: The start
The French Revolution caused the start of the Haitian Revolution because many people were dissatisfied with the French and how they were being treated.
1791: Slaves planned
Boukman gathered many slaves in the North Province to create a plan to attack the whites.
1791: Slaves attacked whites
The slaves attacked the whites on August 21st and were badly beaten. The Northern part of Cape Francois was inflames from the slaves burning down all of the plantations.
1802: Toussaint was defeated
Toussaint and his army went to the Eastern part of Haiti and while he was there he assembled an island committee and made himself chief. When Napoleon sent his troops to the island in 1802, Toussaint and his troops fought the French but lost. Toussaint's men were forced to join the French army and he was sent to jail.
1803: Declaring Independence of Haiti
The French surrendered to the Haitians in 1803 and Dessalines, who led the indigenous army, declared independence of Saint Domingue and was now called Haiti. In 1825 when Haiti signed a treaty with France all of the major plantations on the island were shut down and were no longer in use. There was no more slaves in Haiti just peasants, administrative commercial and Military Elites.
